I hope that you had a terrific summer. For our family it just seemed to be here and gone. For many families the kids are back in school and the temperatures are turning colder. Let me just encourage you to enjoy the day God has given you and make the most of it for His Glory!
This month I am teaching a four week study on the book of Jonah. Of course, anyone who has attended Sunday School at least knows the basics about the story of Jonah and the great fish. It is really the story of a man who is called of God to preach to his enemies, and the enemies of God's people- the Ninevites. Well, Jonah will have nothing of that- after all he doesn't want his enemies to hear the message of God and perhaps repent of their sinful ways. As a result Jonah goes in the exact opposite direction that God wanted Him to go- honoring his own will and plan over the will and plan of God. The chapters of Jonah unfold like a four part play- telling the story of God's dealing with the prophet and His message to the Assyrian Ninevites.
Many times we can look at Jonah and think, How could he try to ignore God like that? Does'nt he know that he is just going to get himself into trouble?
But how often we go our own way- we choose a path away from God's will. Everyday we are faced with a choice to serve and worship or not. You know, one of the primary ways that professing Christians walk in their own counsel is by failing to attend worship on a regular basis. It is the obligation of every child of God to worship Him on a regular basis with other believers. Regular attendance at church is a primary indicator of the health of an individual's Christian life. Now I know that there are those who work nearly every Sunday- however, what about Wednesday Night? Or a Bible Study? Remember, we serve a mighty God who will be glorified!
“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. 9 See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.” Isaiah 42:8-9.
How about you? Are you honoring God with your praise and worship on a regular basis? I would challenge you to read the first couple of chapters in the book of Romans. The issue concerning humankind and God is this:
Will we worship Him?
Take care and may you follow the leading of God every moment! Remember good intentions count for nothing if they are not acted upon.
If you have never attended Living Stone, my wife Sherri and I would like to invite you to attend!
Our world seems to be spinning out of control. this is just a small sampling of the troubling events of our generation. Need we speak of North Korea, China, the US economy, the tragedy in Japan and even the cost of milk ?.....In my news reading I even came across this headline:
Man dressed in a cow costume steals 26 gallons of milk from a grocery store!
As funny as that last story sounds it is a creative way to sin! This world is unraveling under a blanket of sin! The Word of God tells us that in the last days things will wax worse and worse. The world will be thrown into chaos- and it's all because of man's overall failure to submit to God and His ways, Satan to, has his plan, desiring to be followed and worshipped- He is behind the governments of the world who are sending us at break-neck speed to the edge of collapse! If you are like me and my family, we all have concerns about these things, making ends meet, and holding back the tide of ungodliness. It seems that events are leading us to a life that we have never experienced before. The Holy Spirit led Peter to write the following words for our encouragement and instruction in light of these events.
"The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so you can pray. Above all love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms". I Peter 4:7-10
God is in control beloved of God- no matter the circumstances, Be self controlled and clear minded! Love God. Love each other forgive and extend the grace of God to all. The time is short. Will you do it?
Keep the Faith!
